Warriors travelled to Slave Lake on Sunday despite the weather. With a short bench of 9 player and 2 goalies the Warriors pull off a road win in Overtime against the Slave Lake Winterhawks 5 - 4. Warriors lead 2 - 0 after the 1st period, 3 - 2 after the second and it was 4 - 4 after regulation that took the game into overtime. It was their own Captain, Mike Ivey with 2:47 into the overtime period that notched the victory for the Warriors. "This was a huge win for the Warriors, said Coach Kuhar. We had 9 skaters and then half way into the 2nd period we lost a player to a hit to the head leaving 8 skaters to battle against the Winterhawks who had a full line up of 18 skaters and 2 goalies. The guys before the game were determined to come out with a win. Right out of the gate we took it to Slave Lake and I think caught them of guard not expecting that kind of response. Basically we played the game we wanted and it frustrated the Winterhawks that got them into some penalty trouble. Chris Kuhar played an outstanding game in net facing 54 shots on net. I believe that was a big part of the win as well as the guys focus and determination to come out with a win. We played our system to a T and everyone contributed."
The Warriors go on the road for their final 2 games before Christmas to Drayton valley on Friday December 6 and then against Whitecourt on Friday December 13 being played in Mayerthorpe. The first home game after Christmas is Friday January 3/14 at the Spirit Centre against the Whitecourt Wild.
