Westlock Warriors take win to open the new year 7 - 4 over Whitecourt that saw Gord Bell suited up for the Warriors. Last night saw Gord play in front of home town fans and Family and friends which was to round out his competitive hockey career at home. Gord was excited to play and you definitely saw the level of play he brought to the team in his playing making.
The game was tied 1 - 1 after the first period and then the flood gates opened up as the Warriors tallied 4 goals in the second period while Whitecourt only had one to make the score 5 - 2 after the second period. The third saw the Warriors score two goals and Whitecourt one to make the final score 7 - 4. At the end of the third with about 4 minutes remaining two Whitecourt players tried to take out Gord Bell, then Rod Kaliel came to his defence who also was teamed with 2 guys and then in came Kolbe Waldner to help out. This caused a fight between Waldner and Nic Bourgeois as Kolbe held his ground against the Whitecourt player. This happended while our goaltender Marcus Johnson came in to help out as well. The result was a few penalties on both sides and fortunately no injuries resulted. "It was a great win to start after the holidays and sets the stage for us as we play the last 5 games remaining, said Coach Kuhar. Also having the opportunity to have Gord Bell suit up for the team and provide him the opportunity to play maybe his last competitive hockey game at home in front of family and friends was also a highlight of the night."
The Warriors travel to Rocky Mountain House Saturday night.
