Westlock Warriors takes loss on their last regular season home game to Devon Barons in last nights action 5 - 4. The Warriors basically spotted the Barons 5 goals after neatly 2 periods of play before the Warriors were able to manage a come back with 4 unanswered goals, but that wasn't enough as the Barons held on to a 5 - 4 win. For Warriors the game didn't make a difference for their final league standings, but the game for Devon clinched them first place in the North Division and overall in league. The Warriors will now playoff against Morinville Kings in the first round of playoffs. The Warriors just couldn't get anything going early enough in the game despite out playing the Barons in the first 15 minutes of the first period. The first period ended up 2 - 0 for the Barons. The Barons continued into the second period with another 2 goals to go up 5 - 0 on the Warriors and then the Warriors started the come back with 2 goals before the end of the period to end the second at 5 - 2. The Warriors pressed hard in the third, but were only able to come up with 2 more goals in the third a little short and the game ended 5 - 4 for the Barons. "We out played the Barons for the first 15 minutes of the game and just couldn't find the back of the net and that got the guys a little frustrated and quickly the barons got 2 goals before the end of the first period, said Coach Kuhar. I think if we were able to net a couple to start in the first period it would have been a different game, but we find ourselves coming from behind time and time again. We need to continue to clean up our turnovers and that made the difference in the game tonight. As far as the game making a difference in the standing we were in 3rd place no matter what. But the difference now is we will play Morinville in the first round of playoffs."
The Warriors play their last regular season game today as they travel to Slave Lake for a 2:30 pm start. Watch for dates and times for playoff action.
