It was a re-peat of last years North Division Final between the Barons and the Warriors. The Warriors came out hard in the first period and with 5 minutes into the game the Warriors opened the scoring from captain Mike Ivey. The Warriors notched 2 more before the Barons answered back with 2 goals in the last 4 minutes of the first period. The Warriors dominated the Barons with strong puck pressure and puck possession. The Barons were essentially running around a little stunned. In the second period the Barons tied it up with 5 minutes into the period, but the Warriors responded with a goal 3 minutes later and then scored another 2 more to finish out the period. The Barons a little frustrated by the Warriors dominance starting becoming chippy and using their sticks hard on the Warriors. The Warriors stood their ground with some physical play that generated a few penalties in the second period. The Warriors were sending a message that their were not going to be taken lightly and that the Barons could not take the momentum away from them with their chippy play. The Warriors were strong in standing up for their team mates. Barons changed their goalies 5 minutes into the second to try build some monenum with no avail. In the third period the Barons again came out strong with a goal a minute into the period. The Warriors responded with a goal a 2 minutes later and quickly the Barons notched another one to put the game 8 to 5 in favor of the Warriors. The Warriors scored another quick goal at 15:59 of the period and then closed out the match with a power play goal with 3 minutes remaining in the game. The final score 10 to 5 for the Warriors. "t was an excellent outing for the Warriors and a whole team contribution. The guys followed the game plan to a tee and clogged the middle of the ice up minimizing the Barons effectiveness. We were tough physically and maintained strong puck pressure and control, say Coach Kuhar" Highlights were a strong display by goaltender Marcus Johnson, 3 goals from Alex Belzevick, a 4 point night from Nathan Brown and physical and strong leadership from the Captain Mike Ivey.
The Warriors host the Rocky Rams tonight at the Spirit Centre. The Warriors welcome our fans to come out and cheer on the Warriors.
